Chapelle romane Saint Martin de Galéjas
Quartier Saint Martin
SAINT-SYLVESTRE
- Phone: +33 4 75 58 20 11
This Romanesque building from the end of the 11th to the beginning of the 12th century stands out for the beauty and originality of its architecture and interior. A small vaulted building closed by a door collects water from the healing spring (scabies pathology, hence the name Galéjas).
The visitor can start with an outside tour by taking a right turn on the west side. He walks along the south side, the nave renovated between 1959 and 1961, then on the east side, he notices the square-shaped apse and the curious asymmetrical bell-tower that crowns the building. Finally, he comes back towards the entrance along the north side of the nave. The chapel is open on special occasions (religious ceremonies, heritage days, organized hikes, etc...). The rest of the time it is possible to go to the house facing the entrance.
