It was built in Romanesque style towards the end of the 10th century. It was part of the Cluniac priories established in the Rhone valley. The building we see today is the only remaining part of the old priory.

The European Federation of Cluniac Sites aims to bring together the places in Europe that contributed to the extraordinary influence of the Abbey of Cluny (South Burgundy) from the 10th to the 18th century! The aim of the federation is to bring together the places which contributed to the extraordinary influence of the Abbey of Cluny (South Burgundy) from the 10th to the 18th century. The monks of Cluny were at the origin of the emergence of hundreds of towns and cities. Each of them is the holder of a piece of this unique European cultural heritage.
The network of Cluny sites is a major cultural itinerary of the Council of Europe, of which the church of Saint-Georges les Bains has been a part since 2011.
